Today’s Irish Times carries an impassioned plea from Fr Robert Hoatson of New Jersey under the headline: ‘Papal apologies are all well and good – now is the time for action.’

Fr Hoatson was sexually abused while a member of the Christian Brothers and as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Newark, and had a first cousin who committed suicide in the aftermath of clerical sexual abuse. Hoatson’s words, then, are rooted in the experience of the pain and suffering that always accompanies sexual abuse.

Remembering clergy abuse victims who have committed suicide

Supportflag_usa Tag: usa

On Memorial Day we remember those men and women who gave their lives during war in service to our country.

It’s also a day that many of us remember our own relatives and friends who have died.

It is fitting and appropriate that we, survivors and supporters, remember clergy sexual abuse victims who were unable to bear the effects of their abuse and committed suicide.

One way of remembering these fallen victims is to visit the Memorial Index on the SNAP website.

VICTIM groups now want religious orders to pay 600m directly to survivors of institutional child sex abuse.

None of the compensation money should go to cover administrative, legal or medical costs, a new alliance of survivors of abuse groups has said.

Instead survivors want the Government to keep a promise made in 2002 that the Redress Board awards would match average High Court payouts in personal injury claims.

Emotional Clearing

Support
Fear and trauma can produce conditioned emotional responses that unless released will not only hamper our ability to live and enjoy life fully, but can also limit the ability of some body systems to function properly, particularly the immune system. This can result in unexplained pain and illness as well as depression and other psychological issues.

Essential oils can assist in helping people to move beyond emotional blocks through their relaxing effect. The aldehydes and esters of certain essential oils are very calming and sedating to the nervous system. These substances allow us to relax instead of getting caught up in anxiety spiral. Anxiety creates an acidic condition that activates the transcript enzyme which then transcribes that anxiety on the RNA template and stores it in the DNA. That emotion then becomes a predominate factor in our lives from that moment on.

Publishing abuse report is crucial for victims

COMMISSION OF inquiry reports are a bit like buses these days you wait ages for them and then two arrive almost simultaneously.

Last week the Dublin archdiocese report was delivered to the Minister for Justice almost seven years after the initial commitment to establish a State inquiry into clerical child sexual abuse in Dublin following the Prime Time Cardinal Secrets documentary. And it took a full decade for the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Ryan commission) to report last May on its findings of abuse of children in institutions.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- For children suffering from sexual abuse, or inappropriate contact at the hands of an authority figure, it's often hard to know where to turn.

For a child of any age, it's a confusing and scary situation.

ChildHelp Tennessee Director Pamela Dickey says, "When that person that you respect and you have to follow the orders of, starts breaking the rules with you and touching and asking you to do things, then you're put into a position where you don't know what to do next. You don't know who you can turn to."

Cardinal needs a reality check

SupportOPINION It's about time someone took a few nine-year-old girls to the Vatican and introduced them to the old men there for a reality check.

They should take with them their Barbie dolls, and whatever the current equivalent is of My Little Pony, and the old chaps should be forced to watch a few hours of children's television with them, just to get them up to speed.

Yes, this is what children are like. They are small, trusting, innocent, and in no way adult.

Parents know this. Stepfathers do, too. That's why we protect them, and why breaching their trust is so serious and wrong.
